Vienna Diaries | Art, Literature and the Beauty of Vienna

In April I spent a few days in Vienna. On a day of my arrival I took a train to the Inner City and I saw the State Opera, then walked to the Austrian National Library to see its magnificent State Hall. I must say this is the most beautiful library I have ever visited. Afterwards I walked to St Stephen’s Cathedral and Shakespeare and Company Bookshop where I bought Wonderful Wonderful Times by Elfriede Jelinek, the author who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2024. I then walked to the famous Cafe Central but as it was so busy and the queue was so long, I gave up the idea of entering it this time. I then walked to one of the imperial palaces, Hofburg and its gardens.

I recorded the video below in the afternoon when I spent a lot of time resting and reading in the gardens next to Hofburg. I read The World of Yesterday by Stefan Zweig, Compass by Mathias Enard and started reading Wonderful Wonderful Times by Elfriede Jelinek. All these books are set in Vienna during different periods. I then walked to Museum Quarter and I took a bus to Kochgasse in Josefstadt to see the building number 8 in which the writer Stefan Zweig lived at the beginning of the 20th century between 1907 and 1919.

The video below is from another day when I recorded my morning in Vienna. I visited the traditional coffee house, Café Schwarzenberg to have a cup of green tea and some veggie breakfast. I then went to Rose Garden near Hofburg before heading to the Art Museum which will appear in the next video. I hope you will enjoy this quiet slow morning in Vienna. I loved the city’s wide avenues and its quiet atmosphere.

I made a recording of my visit to the beautiful Art Museum (Kunsthistorisches Museum) in Vienna which holds the objects from the ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and paintings from the recent centuries. I loved this visit so much! I had such a peaceful time there and I wish I could spend a bit more time there.

I hope you enjoyed this Digital Travel Diary of my time in Vienna and you will be able to visit it one day. I hope to go back one day and visit more museums and places related to Joseph Roth, Gustav Klimt and Stefan Zweig.
