In late September I spent a few days in Budapest. I was hoping for the autumnal weather but instead I was welcomed by a heatwave. I still enjoyed my time in the beautiful capital of Hungary.
First Day | Arrival in Budapest and afternoon walk
The first video was recorded on a day of my arrival and includes my late afternoon walk around the old city.
Second Day | Morning Walk
This is a recording from my morning walk on the second day of my visit to Budapest. I visited the Massolit Bookstore, The Great Synagogue and Shoes on the Danube Memorial on the Danube River.
Second Day | Afternoon Walk
In the afternoon I visited the Castle Hill including Buda Castle with the beautiful views of Danube River and Fisherman’s Bastion.
Third Day | Morning Walk
The video below shows my morning walk to Jozsefvaros to see the bronze sculpture dedicated The Paul Street Boys (A Pal utcai fiuk) novel from 1906 by Ferenc Molnar situated on Práter Street, near the original schoolhouse (now at Práter utca 11) that the characters of the book attended. I then walked to The Grand Market Hall ‘Nagyvásárcsarnok’ built in 1897.
Third Day | Afternoon Walk
My afternoon walk included a visit to St Stephen Basilica, The House of Terror Museum. My day ended with some time in city park and eating langos.
I was very affected by the visit to The House of Terror in 60 Andrassy Boulevard. The building in which the museum is located was witness to two tragic and brutal periods in Hungary’s 20th century history. In 1944 this building was the headquarter of the Hungarian Nazi Arrow Cross Party. Then between 1945 and 1956 the notorious communist terror organisation, the AVO and its successor, the AVH, took up the residence in the building. Today this is the museum dedicated to the victims of terror and serving as a reminder of the atrocious acts of dictatorships.
Fourth Day
My last day in Budapest was spent on visiting the New York Cafe, Margaret Island and just wandering the streets in Budapest. It was a lovely and peaceful day before leaving next day in the morning.
